Communicate With Spirits
Prepare for the ritual in your usual way. According to your personal preference, begin with the following:
- Ground and Center
- Cast and Raise circle
- Call quarters
Invitation to the God:
Lord of the night, join me now in this sacred space.
Your Lady rides high in the sky and soon will be in and of me.
Come now to join me in the ancient holy rites.
So Mote It Be !
Spend a few moments becoming aware of the God presence and light the God candle. Most likely a gold, orange or red candle.
Invitation to the Goddess:
Blessed be Lady Moon, mother of all life.
I invite your presence in my circle tonight.
Join me in the joyous enchantment of this Esbat night.
For behold, I stand here in the light of your love to worship
in the ancient way and to spin moon magick like my ancestors before me,
I seek to invoke your primal creative power, that my rite shall be successful.
Hear me now, my mother, as I bless your bounty and your goodness.
bless me in turn with your eternal tenderness.
wrap me in your warm silvery light.
hold me forever in the protective embrace of your boundless arms.
So Mote It Be!
Spend a few moments connecting with the energies of the full moon and light a Goddess candle, usually silver. Honor with songs, cakes and ale, or special reading. At this time you may perform the Drawing Down the Moon ritual or any other magickal workings.
When you are complete, release the god and goddess and thank them for their help and attendance. Release the quarters. Lower and open the circle:

The Archangel Michael offers protection in all areas, however he has earned special renown for protecting against rape. Call him by name or attract him with burning frankincense and tell him what you need.
In this manner the letter must be written: first, the ink prepared from soot mixed with pale wine; next, the pen made, shaped from a quill never before cut; then, the paper arranged on a table between two black candles. At the top of the paper this inscription should be set:
See now, thou who are mourned, the nature of this mourning: as thou knowest even now my sorrow, so on this paper do I doubly affirm it. I write thee my heart here, for thy sight and mine only – that we may be bound by such silent words even better than when our words were spoken. Receive, then, this document as sign and token of my commitment: not to forget thee, nor to cease mourning for thee, until my own life shall be ended.
Write down then the essence of your grief, the substance of your devotion, and such aspects of memory as you would fix forever. When this has been accomplished, fold the paper thrice and seal it, along with sweet herbs, in a small box which should then be buried in the ground, or burned in a fire of fragrant wood. The letter shall thus be received.

Finding an angel is not too hard. There is only one requirement – you can’t be kidding around when you call an angel. First, I’d like you to sit back and think seriously about why you want to contact the angelic realms. Be honest with yourself. Is there something you want to improve within yourself or your lifestyle, or is there a rough spot in your life that you would like to smooth out? Are you merely curious?
Take your time.
Got it?
Good. Now, get a piece of paper or an index card and write a want ad for your angel. I kid you not. Sit down and compose an ad as if you were looking for a teacher, a friend, someone who has a service you would like to contact, etc. Here are two sample want ads:
WANTED: Angel from the celestial realms. Seeking an angel who can help me improve my self-image. Need one who can get through my stubborn streak.
SEEKING: Angel who is willing to help me with my money problems. Seeking loving assistance to help me create peace and prosperity in my life.
When you’ve finished the ad, hold it in your hand, close your eyes, and concentrate on bringing a being of light toward yourself. Read your ad out loud if you think it will help. Don’t worry about not doing it right – there is no wrong way to ask an angel to help as long as you use good manners. If you would like to say a little prayer, be my guest. Here’s a good one:
Angelic hosts please hear my call
Bright blessings I extend to all.
East and south, west and north
I circle round and call the forth.
Invisible friend, messenger of love
Send me aid from the realms above.
When you are finished, tuck the card in a pocket or pin it someplace on your clothing where no one can see it. Don’t announce to everyone you know that you’ve just placed a want ad for an angel. We don’t want anyone’s negative thoughts interfering with your project.
After help has arrived and you feel the need to share the information with someone who can use it, then by all means do so. If you have friends or family you know will scoff at you, don’t bother. An old magickal adage is: “Teach not the mysteries to fools.” Others will find their way on their own time without using you as a stepping stone.
Don’t expect your angel to appear to you with trumpets of glory and lights of gold and silver. Angels are often subtle in their work. You may receive a job offer from an unexpected source. A friend may call to pull you out of your doldrums. You may pick up a book and find the answer you were looking for there. When angels are around, there is no such thing as coincidence. It is your job to heighten your sensitivity.
If you open your mental eyes, you will see angels everywhere.
One of my favorite things to do is to plan an “angel day.” It doesn’t cost any money, and I’m never disappointed in what I find or the experiences I have. You can choose to spend a day with nature (pack a picnic lunch), visit friends, or go to a busy shopping mall. It doesn’t matter.
There is only one requirement:
Before you start out, say to yourself, “I’m going to have an angel day today. That means I’m open to whatever the universe has to show me about angels, and how I can help others.” then off you go.
Note:
You can tweak the purpose of your angel day to achieve a number of goals. For example, if you are wanting to know more about your guardian angel, you can say,
“I’m going to have an angel day today. That means I’m open to whatever my guardian angel wants to show me about his/herself, and how we can establish a deeper bond and better communication.”
Keep in mind that every occurrence and everyone you meet is orchestrated by the angels to educate or entertain you. You are on an adventure, a treasure hunt. Be nice to every person you meet. Look people straight in the eyes if they speak to you. Pay attention and listen to what is happening around you.
If you are a “shopper,” might yourself that you will only look for angel things today. You will find that you spend less money and ferret out items you’ve really been looking for, not the junk you usually collect through impulse buying. You might ask the angels to help guide you to the right store, or library, if you are looking for a particular book or reference material.
When you return home, jot down the significant events of your day. Spend time meditating and clearing out your body. During meditation, envision your angel as a tour guide to help you work out any unanswered questions about your experiences.
In essence, there are many ways you can have an “angel day.” You can begin every day as an “angel day.” You just might be surprised by how much more in tune with the universe you will be, and it is a great feeling to have with you every single day.
O you glorious and benevolent angels,Urzla, Zlar, Larzod, Arzal, who are the four angels of the East, I invocate you, adjure and call you forth to visible apparition in and through the great prevalent and divine name of the Most Holy God Erzla, and by the ineffable and efficacious virtues and power thereof, whereby you are governed and called forth, it being therefore absolutely necessary, pre-ordained, appointed and decreed.
Now therefore do I most earnestly entreat and powerfully adjure you, O you benign angels Urzla, Zlar, Larzod, Arzal, in this potent name of your God Erzla to move and appear visibly, and show yourself to me in this crystal stone (or mirror) here before me.
And in and through the same, to transmit your ray to my sight and your voice to my ears that I may audibly hear you and plainly see you and include me in your mysteries wherefore I do most earnestly adjure you, O benevolent and amicable angels, Azla, in the most excellent name of your God, Erzla, and I as a servant of the highest do efficaciously invoke you to appear now perfectly visible to me, O you servants of mercy, come and show yourselves firmly unto me and let me partake of the secret wisdom of your creator.

Here’s a great spell for May Eve, Beltane, or anytime you wish to summon faery folk.
~You will need powdered ginger and a small spoon. Set out candles at the compass directions: yellow in the east, red in the south, blue in the west, green in the north. Place a crystal or other stone beside each candle. Stand in the center of the room and send out thoughts of welcome. Chant the following:
“O spirits of plants and earth and trees, O little ones of every form, show yourselves to me, I ask, if you please. I mean no harm. Gaurdian spirits, watchers fair, our lives are joined. All things we share. Join me in friendship now, and kindness, and love.”
~ Go to the east. Light the candle. Sprinkle a little ginger by the candle, and say: “Nature spirits, faeries, dryads, and sylphs. Please hear my call. Good spirits enter this circle I made. Good spirits only, and kindness to all.”
~ Go to the south. Light the candle. Sprinkle ginger, and say: ” Star beings and devas, little beings of light, Please hear my call. Good spirits enter this circle I made. Good spirits only, and kindness to all.”
~ Go to the west. Light the candle. Sprinkle ginger, and say: “Water sprites,nymphs, naiads and undines. Please hear my call. Good spirits enter this circle I made. Good spirits only, and kindness to to all.”
~ Finish by going to the north. Light the candle. Sprinkle ginger and say: ” Little ones of the moonbeams, Please hear my call. Good spirits enter this circle I made. Good spirits only, and kindness to all.”
Sit quietly for a time, thinking about the fairy folk, be aware of their featherlight touches your body. Listen for their musical voices in your mind. Talk to them if you wish. When communication is finished, stand in the center of the circle. Raise your arms high, saying:
” All thanks and blessings be, To those of air, earth, sky, and sea. Go in peace. And all shall be well.”
Blow out the candles starting in the south and go counterclockwiseor widdershins.

A Dragon needs a home; create a lair or cave or peak filled with treasure. The nature of the treasure determines the nature of the Dragon. Determine whether the dragon you wish to summon has a solitary nature; if not, add images of other dragons and attractive human figures to keep the Dragon company.
To summon the Dragon, light red candles and provide offerings of candy and sweets. The invocation can be a simple heartfelt invitation, but if you’d like to use a prewritten prayer, or something more elaborate that’s fine too. Here is an invocation found at the Dragon Magick Book of Shades:
Oh Dragon Here,
Of Purest Fire, Full Of Love
Lifting Higher, And Higher
Come To Me,
Oh, Dragon Of Light
Oh, Thou Of Truth
Lift Me Higher, This Hour
Let This Be Our Desire
To Be As One, To Work Together
Deep In Love
And Happy Forever.
Be patient. This may take some time. Do the Dragon invitation or summoning every day until you feel the power of the Dragon inhabiting the lair.
This is a spell that can be used to help you get whatever it is that you want: healing, guidance, courage, peace, harmony, love, success, money, energy, insight, power… anything. What is required is a clear idea of what you want and/or need, a tree receptive to your need, a leaf from that tree, a charcoal tipped stick, piece of flexible vine, and a dime.
When you have found the tree you are going to be working with, spend a few minutes getting centered and soaking in the energy of the place and developing a sense of connection with the tree. Then, sitting beneath your chosen tree, write or draw a symbol of your need onto the leaf with your charcoal tipped stick.
Rise and walk nine times around the tree clockwise, saying the following or similar words:
Ancient one of the ancient Earth,
Older than time can tell,
Grant me the power at your command
To charge my magic spell.
Repeat as often as necessary until you have walked nine times around the tree.
When finished, tie the leaf around the trunk as tightly as you can with the vine. If this isn’t possible, find a branch and tie it on there. When you are sure that the leaf is secure, take the dime and bury it at the foot of the tree in the Earth in payment for its help. Now leave the area and let the tree do its work.
If, when you return to the tree, the leaf is gone – don’t worry. The forces have been set in motion.

This spell calls upon the Seven Hathors for protection. The Hathors are ancient birthroom spirits, but they also provide protection on certain days… and can grant gifts and wishes as well.
You will need the following:
- 1 small cup of your favorite beverage,
- 1 piece of your favorite fruit cut up into seven slices,
- 1 long red ribbon cut into seven pieces.
Create an offering table to call the attention of the Hathors and spread out the cup filled with your beverage, the fruit slices, and the ribbons on the table. One for each Hathor.
Speak softly over the ribbons, explain your desires, your fears, and what you want. For example:
“Seven Hathors I speak to today,
come and dine at my table.
My gifts I give freely,
only two things I request.
Protect me from bad luck on Friday the 13th,
and send me some good luck that makes me smile.”
Remember, protection from bad luck is most important…don’t get greedy with your desires… they’ll send you a little good luck if you keep it reasonable.
Tie all seven ribbons together. Hang these ribbons prominently all day long… then bury them in your yard on Saturday. Should their help be needed again summon the seven Hathors with seven new ribbons.
