Eclipse Spells

I do not vouch for this spell, but maybe, if you want it badly enough, and if the incantation is said with enough power and comviction… ??

While touching water on a full moon or during a solar eclipse say the following:

Mermaid now let it be.
Mermaid when wet so mote it be.
Human when dry so shall it be.
On land I walk.
In the sea I swim with a long_______(tail color) tail.
Blessed be.
And by the power of 3x3x3.
In sea I swim.
When dry I walk.
So mote it be.
So mote it be.

There is an old saying that “you can’t have your cake and eat it too.” Which usually means that you cannot or should not have or want more than you deserve or is reasonable, or that you cannot or should not try to have two incompatible things. The proverb’s meaning is similar to the phrases “you can’t have it both ways” and “you can’t have the best of both worlds.”

It doesn’t happen very often, but when Super Moon, Blue Moon, and Lunar Eclipse all happen on the same day (January 31, 2018), it is a perfect time for magick to overcome seeming limitations, to ask for more than you deserve or what is reasonable, and to imagine that you could indeed somehow, some way, have the best of both worlds.

I am calling it the Once In A Blue Moon You Have Your Cake And Eat It Too Spell. This spell can be used during any Full Blue Moon.

You will need the following ingredients:

  • Bird Seed
  • Honey
  • Cornmeal
  • Coconut Oil
  • Wine or Spirits

The idea is to make a special cake, take it out into nature on the evening before. Offerings are made, prayers are said, and the cake is then left as a gift. By leaving it out on the evening before, the cake is charged by the energy of the moon and the night, as the new day dawns, this energy is dispersed into the world at large. It may take a fair amount of time for the spell to come to fruition, and a key element is that once the spell is made, it is released and forgotten.

Making The Cake

  • Setting Your Intention

Before you start with the actual spell, it is important to set your intention. What do you want to accomplish? What impossible, incompatible, impractical, unreasonable thing do you want?  Usually, when working magick, it’s important to be really specific, but in this case, generalities are fine. For example: I want to be happy. I want to be rich. I want true love. I want to be young again…

  • My Cup Runneth Over

“My Cup Runneth Over” is a quotation from the Hebrew Bible (Psalm 23:5) and means “I have more than enough for my needs.” How fun it would be to use this as a measurement for the first ingredient in our magickal moon cake.

With this in mind, pour a heaping cup of bird seed into a large bowl. This can be a tea cup, a coffee cup, or a measuring cup, the amount doesn’t have to be exact. The amount of bird seed will, however, determine the size of your cake.

Run your fingers through the seeds, and think about all the little things that would need to come together to make your wish come true.  Think also about how fertile a tiny seed is, what a powerful little package it is. Allow your fingers to fill the seeds with a sense of purpose. Your purpose.

  • Sweeten The Pot

The expression “sweeten the pot” means to make something more desirable. The expression originally comes from gambling; when players make new bets, they will sometimes say they are “sweetening the pot” as they throw chips in. This means the pot (i.e. the money that will be won by the person with the best hand) is larger and therefore more desirable to all players.

This spell is a bit of a gamble, and we do want our cake to be desirable. So now that we’ve filled all of our little seeds with a sense of purpose, it’s time to add the honey.

Pour enough honey into your bowl of seeds to coat each one. One or two tablespoons will probably be sufficient. It will depend on how much birdseed there is. You need just enough honey to turn your pile of dry seeds into a sticky ball.

  • Grease Some Palms

To grease someone’s palm, a phrase that dates from the early 16th century, is to bribe them. The metaphor comes from the idea of applying grease to a machine to make it run smoothly.  There is also a saying that “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” which conveys the idea that the most noticeable (or loudest) problems are the ones most likely to get attention.  The purpose is “to facilitate, expedite, ease, or aid something or some process; to make or help things run more smoothly or more easily.”

I love the idea of using Coconut Oil as our grease of choice, since coconuts grow on palm trees, and we’re greasing some palms. It will be easier to add it to our sticky ball if it’s been warmed up a bit and is in liquid form.

About a quarter of a cup should do if you’ve used about a cup of seeds, but you may need more. Be sure and rub some on the palms of your hands, maybe give some thought to the squeaky wheels that might need smoothing.

If your mixture of seeds and honey still seem soft and crumbly after adding the coconut oil, add more coconut oil, and then chill it for a little while. The coconut oil should solidify and even though it might be delicate, your cake should hold together pretty well. The chilling can be done either before or after the next step, which is adding the cornmeal.

  • Ripe For Harvest

What we plant in the soil of contemplation,
we shall reap in the harvest of action.
~Meister Eckhart

Corn, by its very nature is a sacred and vital plant. Its presence allows the people to live, thrive, grow and prosper. Because of this role, Corn Meal can be used to bless people, places, and objects. Imagine that whenever corn meal is used in this capacity that it is like a blanket of energy. It surrounds and marks the intended target with its powerful spirit, lending it gifts of vitality, fruitfulness, and rejuvenation. Keeping the idea of this blanket in mind, you can also see it as a mantle of sorts. When it is sprinkled over a person or object, that mantle is shared and covers the object, making it sacred as well.

With this in mind, spread a generous handful of cornmeal over your mixture. Shape it into a round moon shaped disk, covered completely with cornmeal, top and bottom. If the cake seems too soft, you can chill it in the freezer for a few minutes, this should solidify the coconut oil, and the cake will harden enough for gentle handling.

Performing The Ritual

For this you will need a place in nature to leave your cake. It will be best if you can leave it on a natural altar, such as a flat rock. If that is not available, you could leave it at the base of a tree, on a large round leaf, or in a circle of leaves, twigs, and/or small stones.

Begin at sunset, or just after dark. Place your cake on the altar of your choice. And then pour a circle of wine around it, and invoke the Powers, the Gods, and Spirits. Say:

From strong earth below me
To the wide sky above me
I call the Powers, the Gods,
Those in Spirit who love me.

I want my cake. I want to eat it too.
Here is one I made for you.

I thought I couldn’t ~ but maybe I could.
I thought I wouldn’t ~ but maybe I would.
I thought you can’t ~ but maybe you can
Make the impossible ~ a possible plan.

Now, in your own words explain what you are asking for.

Take a few moments to really feel the energy, and then say thank you, swipe your hands together twice to cut the connection, and walk away. Don’t look back.

Day of the Eclipse…a Greek Myth Made Ritual

Today’s colors are black and white. Upon a black cloth set incense, a lantern with a bright flame, and two necklaces of figs strung together, one of dark figs and one of light ones. On this day of magickal possibilities lets purify some evil thing from your life. As darkness overwhelms us let it be the darkness that steals our mind and heart…as the light comes back in the world, so too should light cleanse your soul and body. During the eclipse there should be fasting.

Eclipse Invocation

Long ago on days as this
The people chose two from the crowd,
One man and one youth
Coupled in life
Who had incurred their wrath,
Or were sinners, or merely ugly,
And they paid them gold in the name of Apollo
Bright God of the Sun
Whose rath the city must invoked
To steal their light from the sky
Apollo, he whose other face
Is the ravening wolf Lycaon.
They fed them, marched them around
The boundaries of the city,
And then drove them out
Pelted with figs and squills,
With all the sins of the city on their backs.
And soon the light returned
And the city felt blessed
And comforted in their action
Yet sins are not so easily driven out.
To lay them on a human back
Is too easy, and we do not walk the easy path.
So on this day we cast out the sins
Of the house, the family, the community,
Yet we each take responsibility for those sins,
And as dark returns to light
We admit that we are each the Pharmakoi
A scapegoat, but of our own actions
And that none of us can lay that on another.

Chant:
Pharmakoi Pharmakoi
We cast you from our home

*All lay hands upon the fig wreaths and speak what sins they would cast out and be rid of. They are then carried outside to be thrown on a fire and burned, and the ashes turned into the compost heap or scattered about the garden.

When using fire and ice together, you are calling for a natural balance to take place. It can be a balance of the self, a balance of a situation, or even a balance of the checkbook. This is a great spell to do during an Eclipse.

You will need:

  • A large clear glass bowl
  • Equal amounts of water and ice
  • 3 floating candles (these can be multicolored, white, gray, or brown)
  • Handful of salt

Place the ice in the bowl. Add the salt and say, ” I cast off any negativity and purify this ice. It is blessed by the Goddess and the God.” Add enough water to make the surface smooth, and bless it in the same manner.

Place the candles in the bowl and say:

“I call upon my higher self
to bring my being into harmony.
I will myself to be balanced in all situations.
So mote it be!”

Clap your hands three times and light the candles. This is a good time to reflect on which areas of your life need balance the most. It also is a beautiful sight to sit and watch the ice melt while the flames dance. Spend an appropriate amount of time in reflection before you close your circle or leave the area.

Eclipse

Even if you live in a part of the world where the Moon’s shadow doesn’t fall during this eclipse, you can still work magic for new opportunities and to bring change into your life. Light a white candle for the Sun god and a black one for the Moon goddess. Then repeat the verse:

As the Sun god and Moon goddess embrace today,
May new opportunities start to come my way,
During this eclipse, the Moon’s shadow is cast on the Earth,
Ushering in a time of balance, magic, and re-birth.

Allow the spell candles to burn out in a safe place.

Total_solar_eclipse

A solar eclipse occurs as the Sun casts the Moon’s shadow across the Earth. It unites the powers of Sun and Moon, light and darkness, logic and intuition. It is “a day without a night, a night without a day,” magically suspended from normal routines: a cosmic exception that proves the rule of Sun and Moon.

An eclipse is a perfect time for changing patterns. Use its power to break curses, bad habits, and so forth. Choose a small item representing what you want to dispel.

At the time of the eclipse, take the item far from your home. Hold it and concentrate on all that binds and limits you, symbolized by this object. Then say:

Eclipse, break
through the past
Smashing all
that held me fast.
Shadow come,
shadow go,
Take this nasty
thing I throw.

Throw the item as far away from you as possible. Quickly bury it where it falls, then say:

Hide it far, far away
Lost between the night and day.
Leave it there, let it be,
Never more to
trouble me!

Cover the site with fallen leaves or grass to obscure it. Then walk away without looking back.

Eclipses are opportunities for major transformation; this is a time when the energies of the lunations are more amplified and focused.

Solar eclipses always occur on the New Moon, and Lunar eclipses occur on the Full Moon. The eclipses reflect the lunation they correspond to, but they’re much more intense and their effects are more long-lasting, so it is a powerful time for rituals of transformation and release.

For the Eclipse Meditation Ritual you will need:
  • a white candle
  • salt
  • purified or spring water
  • incense
  • small pieces of paper and pen

Take a ritual bath (add hyssop and lavender if you have it, salt if you do not) and visualize yourself releasing any blocks and fears, and affirm that you are ready to take yourself to the next level, and face the truth with an open heart and mind.

After your bath, sit in front of your altar, and do some basic grounding and rhythmic breathing. (You can ground by imagining your spine growing roots that grow down into the earth, and with each inhale, breathe in the energy from the core of the Earth… with each exhale, release anything you need to release, i.e. fears, doubt, sadness, apathy, etc. The earth can turn almost anything into fertilizer, so transform your “negatives” into something you can use!)

Drumming is a great way to get you in the correct meditational state as well… one of the fastest ways to reach alpha state is to follow the tempo of the heartbeat with your drum.

Pour the salt into the water, and clear yourself with it by lightly sprinkling yourself and anointing yourself with it.

Light your candle. Meditate on the symbolism of the flame, that fire transforms and illuminates, and stare into the flame for a while, and ask for clarity and truth during this eclipse cycle. Give yourself permission to release any and all thought forms that no longer serve your highest good. Ask the following:

  • What area of my life needs some new ideas and a fresh perspective?
Write it down on a small piece of paper, and create an affirmation supporting your new goal.
  • How can I break through restrictive “safe” constructs, to be fully alive and, like the Phoenix, be reborn thru transformation?
Write it down on a small piece of paper, and create an affirmation supporting your new goal.

Save those pieces of paper for later.

Write down on the remaining pieces of paper (one at a time) what keeps you from achieving the goals you are after… focus on it, then say something like:

“All energy is neutral. I now release and transform this energy into an energy source that can be utilized for the highest good for all concerned (or “in the name of Goddess / Universe / God / Creator” etc.)

Burn the paper, focusing on the transformation of the energy.

When you feel like you’re clear, thank the Deities, energies, spirits, guides, angels, etc. you’ve worked with, and bury the ashes in the earth, and imagine your goals for transformation fulfilled. Blessed Be.

The use of symbols can sometimes help make a spell more powerful… let your imagination guide you as you set up your personal lunar altar.

  • Use white or silver candles and altar cloths
  • Lunar Goddesses: Isis, Artemis, Diana, Hecate, Kwan Yin
  • Lunar Herbs: mugwort, camphor, sandalwood
  • Lunar Metal: silver
  • Lunar Stones: moonstone, selenite, pearl, mother of pearl, sapphire
  • Draw the symbol for the Moon on your candles
  • Make a medicine bag representing what you want to transform and consecrate it; carry your medicine bag next to your skin

Tell no one about your spell work! Make a strong floor wash out of mugwort and a pinch of camphor, and clean ritual area and psychic tools with it.

An eclipse can be an excellent time to make contact with the Faerie realm. Here is a great how-to that I found at Ancient Magical Recipes:

To initiate contact with the Faeries during the eclipse go out in a place which feels familiar and alive. By that I mean a place in Nature that you love either because you felt close with the Fae or because you have really good memories of that place (for example having a good time) or just because that place feels like home. If you don’t feel that there is a specific place in mind then it is better to stay home and meditate about your connection with the Fairies. I am perfectly sure that if you truly want to contact the Fairies your time will come.

When you arrive at your favorite place make sure you bring an offering. Any offering that you feel that would be appropriate. From my experience sugar, honey, ribbons, wine, milk and fresh fruit are well accepted.

Now find a place that feels “right” as with the fairies you must always embrace your intuition. Close your eyes and breathe, breathe slowly and deeply, feel your surroundings, feel the life force in the wind, the trees, the grass, the stones, the water, the ground, the flowers, the animals. Then extend your mind to those beings that protect this place that surround everything: the guardians, protectors, allies of the Forest, the light that penetrates the darkness, the life that accompanies and embraces all life and there you are. Part of the circle, part of life, there breathing deeply and slowly, alive!

Now proclaim:

My name is (name or magical name) and I am your ally
Love brought me here, love is all I feel, love will be with me when I leave with my heart clear
Fairies of the Forest hear me well and hear me dear:

The door is open
I feel no fear

Me and you we are kith and kin
Be with me and guide me
That’s all I seek
And as I claim so be it!

Perform this spell during an eclipse or a waxing moon phase. Arrange sea shells on a secluded beach, in the shape of a circle. If you do not have access to a beach, perform this ritual in a garden or forest using stones, branches or flowers to form the circle.

Kneel at the center facing the ocean. Light a blue candle and incense of your choice. Raise arms high and recite:

“With smoke and flame this spell’s begun.
O Goddess of the stars, moon, and the sun,
Let the healing power begin.
Let the Earth be whole again.”

“The Earth is my mother and I am her child.
The earth is my lover, free and wild.
Heal on the outside, heal within.
Land and sea, fire and wind.”

“With love sincere,
I chant this prayer to make mankind
Begin to care.
Let every sister and every brother
Heal the wounds of the Great Earth Mother.”

“Let the healing power begin,
Let the Earth be whole again.
Heal on the outside, heal within.
Land and sea, fire and wind.
So mote it be!”

A total lunar eclipse took place on December 20/21, 2010. Called the Christmas lunar eclipse, it was visible after midnight Eastern Standard Time on December 21 in North and South America. This was a very rare event, and the following spell was very powerful at that particular time. This does not mean that this spell could not be used, with a few minor variations, during any lunar eclipse coming up in the future.

wwb_img67

This combines the power of the full and new moon all at once. Any spell performed this night needs to be done carefully as you will be invoking the Triple Goddess in each of her forms. That it falls on Yule brings into play the birth of the Unconquered Sun, and invokes the full power of the God as well. Total lunar eclipses always involve the full moon, and as such, are the time of perfect union between the sun and the moon. Spells for fertility, new ventures, success, love, and miracles are greatly enhanced when worked during the eclipse.

Consider carefully what you wish and write it out before hand. I would strongly suggest writing your ritual on parchment in sacred ink using a “pen of art” or a sacred writing utensil. Remember, use only consecrated tools as this is a time not only of the full moon, but of the new.

Once you have your spell written (mine will be for happiness and wealth never being detrimental, but only to their and my benefit) and your candles ready (for happiness I have chosen yellow and pink. For wealth, I have chosen forest green and blue) and your altar set up, relax, and take a nice long bath in something heavy with Jasmine.

Drink a cup of Jasmine tea if possible. I can get dried Jasmine flowers from a local herb shop and so include them in my bath and on my altar. My altar for the full/new moon is dedicated to the Morrigan and Brigid, two Goddess whom I never choose.

Cast the circle and once cast, light the non-ritual candles. Meditate gently and allow your mind to go blank then focus on your spell. Now, light the candles related to your spell, using whatever chants you have chosen. Take the scroll of paper you wrote the spell on and pass it over each element. See the energy of that element weaving it’s own magic into the spell on the paper. Wave the parchment over each of the spell candles.

If you can, light the spell from each of the spell candles and allow it to burn in a safe place, visualizing the energies trapped in the paper of the spell being released to do their purpose. Allow the candles and all ritual items to burn themselves out. Do not reuse any candles, incense, salt or herbs that were used in this ceremony. Take all ashes, salt and whatever else “disposable” you used and wrap in a piece of cotton or silk. Treat this as you would the ashes of a sacred fire, using them to bless an area or keeping them as a talisman.
