Wishing Spells

Take a horse shoe and put it around a red candle. Put the candle in a darkened room in the middle of a table. Write what it is you want on a piece of paper with a quill pen dipped in black ink. Chant the following as you write:

What I want I write here
Please take my dream and bring it near
What I want Is what I should get
Let all my dreams now be met.

Now take the paper and fold it in a square of four creases. Hold it over the candle with a pair of tweezers and let it burn. Picture yourself with your wish fulfilled. As you burn the paper send waves of love at the image you conjure of yourself.

This is a fun magickal activity that is also great for children. Collect dandelions that have gone to seed. One easy way is to take a jar with you and snip the heads off letting them drop into the jar.

So not put a lid on the jar yet. First, and this is important, allow them to dry thoroughly by placing the jar in a warm space. If you put the lid on too soon, the seed heads will get damp and moldy and the whole thing will be a mess.

When the dandelions are nice and dry, put a lid on the jar. And label it “My Jar of Wishes.” They will keep for a very long time.

Whenever a wishing spell is called for, you can take your jar of wishes outside, pull out a dandelion, and blow on it allowing the seeds to disperse in the wind.

As you do this you can say:

“Dandelion wishes grant for me
All that I wish for
And so shall it be!”

This simple spell is best performed at the beginning of the New Year or just after Yule, the first day of Spring, on your birthday, or any other date that represents a new beginning for you.

Gather together a long tinsel garland and some small candles. Using the garland, create a large spiral on the floor and surround it with the candles.

Walk the spiral as you would a labyrinth. Pause at the entrance to visualize what you wish for the New Year. Begin your walk at a pace that feels right, repeating the incantation:

“With each step I take,
with each breath I create,
let my spirit awake
for this wish I make.”

Once you reach the center, verbalize your wish. Retrace your steps out of the spiral, repeating the incantation again.

Notes:

  • Your spiral can be made from any materials you wish to use, such as flowers, shells, stones, leaves… etc.
  • If this is included in a group ritual, create a grouping of three spirals like those found at Newgrange in Ireland.

Where there is an apple tree, a unicorn is never far. For this wish granting spell, visit an apple tree with a bottle of cold champagne and a moonstone.

Take a moment to relax and connect with the spirit of the tree, as well as its unicorn ally who is likely dwelling nearby, just beyond the veil. When you feel grounded and connected to the magical realm, safely open the champagne and pour it around the roots of the tree.

Then, speak from your heart. Explain that you have come in the hopes of enlisting the unicorn’s help in granting your wish. If you feel a rush of positivity and love, that is an affirmative: the unicorn desires to grant your wish. So speak your wish aloud. Then feel and express gratitude, and place the moonstone by the base of the tree.

Here is a great spell for good luck and for having your wishes come true:

Gather together:

  • 4 red candles
  • 4 green candles
  • Cinnamon
  • Glass of wine
  • Edible seeds or nuts
  • Round pebble

The red candles are for luck and the green for prosperity, but you may wish to substitute other colors more suitable to your specific wish. The seeds hold the promise of regrowth.

Here’s what to do:

Alternating the colors of the candles, make a large circle with them, aligning them to the eight compass directions. Put the glass of wine in the center of the circle, and place the dish of seeds and/or nuts next to it. Keep the pebble in your left hand through out the spell. The pebble represents the turning Circle of Life in the universe.

Sprinkle Cinnamon around the circle in a clockwise direction, then light the north candle. Once that candle is lit, enter the circle take your place at the center. Now, take a seed or nut, dip it in the wine, make your wish, and then eat it. Savor the flavor, the texture, enjoy the moment.

Working your way around the circle in a clockwise direction, light each candle. As you light each candle, take a seed or nut and dip it in the wine, make your wish and eat it, being sure to take the time to enjoy it. Do this until all the candles are lit.

When finished sit in the middle of your glowing circle. Drink the rest of the wine as a toast to the world. Once you have thoroughly enjoyed the moment, snuff the candles, toss a handful of seeds outside for the birds, and keep the pebble for good luck.

For an extra boost of power, do this spell when the moon is waxing.

Make an odd number of love wishes, and for each wish, place one sweetly-scented Tonka bean in your pocket. Carry them this way for seven days. At dawn on the seventh day, go to running water, call out your wishes, “In the name of The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,” and throw the Tonka beans over your left shoulder into the water. Walk away, don’t look back – and in seven days, your wishes will come true.

Try to keep an eye open for the first appearance of the new moon in the sky. The lovely silver crescent of the new moon always fills me with awe and brings optimism for the coming month. Bow reverently three times, then turn your money over three times. Praise the beauty of the moon, and ask for her blessing in the month ahead.

We should educate people that ‘Witch’ is not evil but ancient and positive. The first time I called myself a ‘Witch’ was the most magical moment of my life.
