Banishing Spells

Nemesis, also called Adrasteia (the inevitable). She is portrayed as a winged goddess wielding a whip or a dagger, and often holding an hourglass. She was the goddess of destiny, and divine anger against mortals who broke moral laws or taboos. Nemesis was a harsh, unremitting force representing acceptance of what must be. At times she would intercede with the Fate deity Atropos to allow a longer lifespan.

Often we have someone in our lives who consistently works at being a real trial to us. This person is sometimes called “our Nemesis,” which isn’t accurate. The problem, however, can fall under the power of the goddess Nemesis. She can remedy or sweep away interpersonal problems, provided we ourselves are not the cause of them. If we are contributing to the upset, she will stand back and make us work it out. So before you call upon Nemesis, be certain that you have rightfully accepted your share of the responsibility.

Use a black candle for Nemesis, anointing it from the end to the wick with patchouli or orange oil. This will help to create a balance or bring your life back into balance. Place a sliced apple in a dish next to the candle. Light the candle and sit facing it. Explain everything about the interpersonal problem to the goddess in your own words. Then say:

The hand of Nemesis balances the scales of justice.
She untangles the threads spun by the Fates.
Lift the burden of this problem, great Nemesis.
Guide me to the solution.
If there can be no harmony, separate us one from the other.
Untangle my life-thread, Nemesis.
This I do ask with a sincere heart.

Now sit quietly and listen with your mind. Meditation at this time can often calm you and provide possible solutions. You may even be told that you must make decisions and follow through with them. Listen, but look at everything logically. Some solutions may be too drastic and painful to implement. In this case, ask for an alternate solution to the problem.

From Moon Magick

You will need:

  • Lighter
  • White candle
  • Vanilla essential oil
  • White feather
  • White flower
  • White stone
  • Salt
  • Ceremonial broom
  • Incense and holder
  • Pen and paper
  • Heatproof container

Before you begin gather all ingredients. Dress and bless the candle by carving it with a wheel of fortune, a horseshoe, a lucky clover and your name and birth date. Anoint the candle with vanilla essential oil OR you can use vanilla extract from you baking cupboard.

On a night when the Moon is waning, Cast a Circle in the usual way; include a sprinkling of salt around the perimeter. Place white flowers, a white feather and a white stone in the center of the Circle and pray:

Goddess Nemesis, I ask that you turn the wheel in my favor. Please accept these gifts as my offering to you. I offer them with humility and love. So Mote it be!

Sweep the Circle Widdershins (counterclockwise) with a ceremonial broom chanting:

Sweep away with magick broom
All misfortune bringing gloom.

Light a stick of incense; cleanse each Quarter beginning in the North and moving Widdershins while chanting

Northern (Western, Southern, Eastern) Quarter I purify
Misfortune now like smoke will fly.

Light the white candle and chant:

Candle flame is burning bright
Bad luck flies into the night.

Write down all the bad luck that you have been experiencing and then set it alight and place it in the heat proof container. Chant:

My bad luck goes up in smoke
Now good luck I do invoke.

Ring your bell and clap your hands, then say:

Bell will call good luck to me,
Clapping hands will set it free.

Now you will physically begin to “turn the wheel” in your favor! Stand in the center of your Circle and with arms outspread spin Deosil (clockwise) while visualizing the Wheel of Fortune bringing you good luck.

When you are finished, snuff the candle, open your Circle and dispose of the candle and paper ashes by burying them or throwing them into moving water. Place the offerings outdoors.

You’ll Need:

  • an onion
  • pen/paper
  • knife

Upon the paper, write the object of your banishment – for example, your bad habit, three times. Cut out and hollow a section of the onion. Taking care not to break or separate the onion, insert your paper into this hole. “Close” the onion by replacing the cut out section (or outer peel).Hold the onion in your hands, focusing your will on the object of banishment. Bury (or burn and bury) the onion OFF of your property to rid yourself of the object of your banishment.

On a Friday night when everyone else in the house is asleep, cut an onion in half. Hold it up, visualize it as a psychic vacuum cleaner. Let it suck up all negativity. Let the onion rest on a table. Hold up one peeled crushed garlic clove. Visualize it as a psychic air cleaner. Leave it out for a little while.

Put both the onion and the garlic in a paper bag and dispose of them outside the home.

If you are trapped in a situation with another person and wish to sever the relationship with a minimum amount of hassle, wait until the dark moon. You will need:

  • A black candle
  • A fireproof bowl
  • A pair of scissors
  • A pencil or pen
  • Two small pieces of paper
  • String or thread

Light the black candle. Write your name on a small piece of paper and the other person’s name on the other piece. Tie the two papers together with a length of string or thread.

Lay the papers on your altar with the edges touching each other. Visualize things as they are now between the two of you. Slowly move the papers apart as far as the string will go. Visualize a peaceful separation with the two of you turning your backs and walking away. Now cut the string in the middle with the Scissors. Say:

I am free.
You are free.
We go our separate ways in peace.

Take the paper with the other person’s name on it, light it in the candle flame, and drop it in the bowl to burn up. Dispose of the ashes when they are cool.

From: Moon Magick

Gather certain fallen twigs;

One of hazel, one of oak,
One of elm, and one of willow;

Hold them to the fire’s smoke,

Say this softly, seven times all:

Turner be turned,
Burner be burned:
Let only good
Come out of this wood.

Spit on each and break it small
Cast them in the fire’s mouth –

The curse will die with the fire’s death.

These are especially good measures to take when moving into a new place, beginning ritual activities in a new space, or to release bad feelings and negativity when an inhabitant has been sick or has died.

To cleanse a single room:

  • On top of a newspaper, set a blue candle.
  • Surround with a circle of salt.
  • Burn a little sage in the room.
  • Light the candle, making sure it won’t tip over.
  • Close the door and let the candle burn down.
  • When finished, take newspaper, salt, and candle
  • Leave the room and bury far from your home.

To cleanse a house:

  • Sprinkle a little salt at each doorway and window.
  • Burn sage in each room, paying special attention to windows and doors.

Cleansing with herbs:

Strew fragrant herbs (rosemary, basil, lavender, others you especially like). Sweep them up with the salt. Cast the swept herbs out your front door. Sweep them off your porch so they won’t get tracked back in.

Candles in the corners:

Select four corners. Set four candles – one in each corner, allow them to burn down.

  • North – black
  • East – white
  • South – purple or dark red
  • West – blue

Being A Witch

We should educate people that ‘Witch’ is not evil but ancient and positive. The first time I called myself a ‘Witch’ was the most magical moment of my life.
