Flowers
Flora is the Roman spirit of flowering plants and, by extension, of fertility and the life-force. Her festival, the Floralia, once began April 27th and continued for six days of revelry, especially by women of all ages celebrating their own bodies and natural beauty. The festival was celebrated in the nude until the third century CE, when Roman authorities ordered that revelers be clothed. The festival held out in that form for one more century until all pagan festivals were banned. Vestiges survive in May Day celebrations.
Just as every blossom is unique, so is every body. Flora encourages one to cherish one’s own beauty without comparison to any other. This spell is particularly potent if timed to coincide with Flora’s old festival but may be cast at anytime.
Fill your bathtub with as many fresh flowers as possible, especially Flora’s favorite, beautiful, transient bean blossoms. Enter the bath and understand that you too are among Flora’s unique and perfect blossoms.

The Floralia – the festival of Flora, Roman goddess of fruitfulness and flowers – is celebrated April 28 thru May 1st. Here’s a nice group ritual, it can be modified if you are a solitary practitioner.
- Color: Pink

- Daily Meal: Vegan. Beans. Salad with edible flowers in it. Flower jams.
- Offerings: Give flowers to people. Allow a rabbit and a goat to run free in the house.
Altar:
Upon a cloth of pink set a pitcher of water, pots of earth, flower seeds, incense of flowers, a bowl of beans, and many fresh flowers should be strewn around the room. The candles of Walpurgisnacht (if you have been observing it) should remain and be lit, and a sixth added to them, for Odhinn’s journey continues even as we celebrate Floralia.

Hail Flora, Lady of Beauty!
We must have not only our bread,
And our work, and our discipline,
But we must also have beauty in our lives,
That we may never become mere worms,
Measuring out our dull grey lives,
Never thinking to look around
And see the great beauty
That the Gods have made for us.
Let us look upon their gifts
And see in that loveliness
A measure of their love for us.
Hail Flora, who lights up our eyes!
Chant:
Oh, She will bring the buds in the spring,
And laugh among the flowers.
In summer’s heat Her kisses are sweet,
She sings in leafy bowers.
She cuts the cane and gathers the grain
When fruits of fall surround Her,
Her bones grow old in winter’s cold,
She wraps Her cloak around her.
(All come forward and plant flower seeds in the pots of earth, which are afterwards carried outside and transferred to the garden. As they plant, they say, “I plant beauty in my life,” and say what sort of beauty they hope to see. The pots are watered, and the rest of the water is poured out as a libation for Flora. The rest of the day is spent adding beauty to the House.)

Long term relationships are like a garden. They need to be sowed, fertilized, weeded, and watered to grow beautifully. Even if you’re doing all of those things, storms can come along and jostle things up. That’s part of what makes a long term relationship both difficult and rewarding.
Here’s a bit of old time gardening magick that can work wonders when it comes to nurturing a relationship.
To begin, you need three seeds from a flowering plant that speaks to you of love. (If you need ideas, you can take a look at The Language of Flowers – a definitive list of flowers and their meanings.) You’ll also need a red-colored planter, good potting soil, and an amethyst crystal (for nurturing love).
Name the seeds after yourself, your partner, and your overall relationship (the sacred We). Every day as you tend the seeds, speak gentle, encouraging words into the soil. Talk about your wishes for your relationship, and let those wishes grow to maturity in rich soil. Meanwhile, begin sharing those wishes and hopes with your partner, and finding ways to work on them together.
By the time the seeds fully blossom, you should notice an improvement in the level of emotion present in your relationship.
Magickal and healing herb gardens are sanctuaries of the soul. Indeed, any garden is a magickal on to the Witch. It isn’t long before we walk along our Earth based path that we as Pagans, Wiccans and Witches feel the need to play in the dirt. There is a spiritual need and excitement when sinking our hands deep into the earth or nourishing and caring and watching a plant grow into maturity. This alone is pure Earth Magick. Stable and strong.
Gardens can be both products of enchantment and independent producers of enchantment; they are a living, on-going magic spell. Gardens may be arranged in any variety of ways – color-coordinated, whatever was on sale at the nursery, even completely haphazardly. If you select, coordinate, and arrange plants according to the magic powers they radiate, then planting a garden becomes one style of casting a spell.
Thus your desire to draw wealth, protection, or fertility to one’s home is manifested by carefully arranging the appropriate plants, and vigilantly removing those possessing opposing, contradictory powers.
This obviously is a long-term extended magic spell, rather than the type of quick-fix luck spell you might choose for a spontaneous trip to a casino. How will you benefit from this type of garden spell?
- The actual spell-casting and then time spent among the botanicals and their radiant energy creates the desired adjustment on your own energy.
- The radiant energy of the coordinated garden draws and/or repels the targeted goal to you and your home in a more powerful manner than one botanical or amulet could achieve alone.
This spell is a symbiotic, reciprocal process, which ultimately strengthens all living participants for their mutual benefit. The garden will additionally attract complementary animal and spirit allies who will also contribute to the success of your spell.
This type of magic spell is not limited to those with access to personal property or sunny weather. Magick spell gardens may be created indoors in pots. Furthermore, an entire garden need not be created; orne or two individual plants may be grown as part of a magic spell or to further other magic spells.
Some other ways to bring magick into your witches garden are as follows:
- Decorate your pots or other gardening tools with symbols and/or runes.
- Place clear quartz crystals or moss agate (the gardeners stone) within the soil to amplify and charge your plants and help your plants flourish and grow.
- Water your plants with water that has been blessed and charged, this will also amplify and nourish your plants.
- Create a moon charged gem elixir with clear quartz, excellent for watering your plants.
- During the growing season you may chose to do a mini-full moon ritual to give thanks and gratitude to Gaia for abundantly blessing you with her sacred gifts of nature.
Sometimes the simplest charms are the best ones.

- Eat a pinch of thyme before bed, and you will have sweet dreams.
- Place chips of cedar wood in a box with some coins to draw money to you.
- Carry an anemone flower with you to ward against illness.
- Hang a bit of seaweed in the kitchen to ward evil spirits.
- Keep a jar of alfalfa in your cupboards to ensure the prosperity of your house.
- Burn allspice as an incense to draw money or luck to you, as well as speed healing.
- Cut an apple in half, and give one half to your love to ensure a prosperous relationship.
- Carry an avocado pit with you to let your inner beauty shine outwardly.
- Avocado is an aphrodisiac.
- Strawberries are an aphrodisiac.
- Place a piece of cotton in your sugar bowl to draw good luck to your house.
- Celery is an aphrodisiac.
- Place almonds in your pocket when you need to find something.
- Scatter chili peppers around your house to break a curse.
- Carrying a packet of strawberry leaves will help ease the pains of pregnancy.
- Scatter some sugar to purify a room.
- Throw rice into the air to make rain.
- Carry a potato in your pocket or purse all winter to ward against colds.
- Eat five almonds before consuming alcohol, to lighten the effects of intoxication.
- Place a pine branch above your bed to keep illness away.
- Chew celery seeds to help you concentrate.
- Carry a chunk of dry pineapple in a bag to draw luck to you.
- Ask an orange a yes or no question before you eat it, then count the seeds: if the seeds are an even number, the answer is no. If an odd number yes.
- Eat olives to ensure fertility.
- Toss oats out your back door to ensure that your garden or crop will be bountiful.
- Eat mustard seed to ensure fertility.
- Place lilacs around your house to rid yourself of unwanted spirits.
- Eat lettuce to drive lustful thoughts from your mind.
- Rub a lettuce leaf over your forehead to help you sleep.
- Add lemon juice to your bathwater for purification.
- Eat grapes to increase psychic powers.
- Carry a blade of grass to increase your psychic powers.
- Smell dill to get rid of hiccups.
- If you place a dill sachet over your door, those who wish you ill can not enter your home.
- Place cotton on an aching tooth, and the pain will ease.
- Buy cotton to cause rain.
- Place pepper inside a piece of cotton and sew it shut to make a charm to bring back a lost love.
- Carry a small onion to protect against venomous animals.
- Eat grapes to increase fertility.
- Place a sliced onion in the room of an ill person to draw out the sickness.
- Place an onion underneath your pillow to have prophetic dreams.
- Place morning glory seeds under your bed to cure nightmares.
- Walk through the branches of a maple tree to ensure that you will have a long life.
- Mix salt and pepper together and scatter it around your house to dispel evil.
- Smell peppermint to help you sleep.
- Hang a pea pod containing nine peas above the door to draw your future mate to you.
- Eat a peach to assist in making a tough decision.
- Carry peach wood to lengthen your lifespan.
- Carry a walnut to strengthen your heart muscle.
St. John’s Wort, a golden flower that smells like turpentine, is regarded as an emblem of the sun.
Light an orange candle and place a bunch of St. John’s Wort beside it. Make a wish, then hang the bundle of flowers over an entrance door to your home. Leave the candle to extinguish itself. It will bring you your wish and ward off evil too.
