Whatever you do to bring life to your garden will bring faeries as well. First of all, plant plants that attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. This will also attract the fae. So put up hummingbird feeders, bird feeders, bird baths, bird houses, even bat houses. Small fountains, ponds, faery statues, or waterfalls are all good.

Here’s a short list of plants that attract faeries to your garden:

  • Common yarrow, Achillea millefolium
  • New York aster, Aster novi-belgii
  • Shasta daisy, Chrysanthemum maximum
  • Western giant hyssop or horsemint, Agastache occidentalis
  • French lavender, Lavendula dentata
  • Rosemary, Rosemarinus officinalis
  • Thyme, Thymus
  • Fountain butterfly bush, Buddleia alternifolia
  • Orange-eye butterfly bush, summer lilac, Buddleia davidii
  • Shrubby cinquefoil, Potentilla fruitiosa
  • Common garden petunia, Petunia hybrida
  • Verbenas, vervains, Verbena
  • Pincushion flowers, Scabiosa caucasica
  • Cosmos, Cosmos bipinnatus
  • Common zinnia, Zinnia elegans

They also love the following plants and trees:

Foxglove, primrose, ragwort, cowslips, pansies, bluebells, clover (3-leaf, not 4-leaf), St. John’s wort, hazel, rowan, blackthorn, oak, willow, elder, birch, alder, apple, ash, and especially toadstools.

Dedicating the Faery Garden

Once the garden is started, you might want to ritually dedicate it as a Faery garden sanctuary. Begin by walking the around the garden with an athame (wand) pointed at its boundaries (much like casting a circle). Then sprinkle the perimeter of the garden with a branch of fir dipped in salted spring water. Finally, walk the boundaries of the garden with a lighted incense stick. (It can be left to burn in the ground when you finish.) Then with a wand of hazel, slowly walk around the garden greeting each plant with words like:

Spirits of the (insert plant name),
I welcome your presence in the garden.

Feel your love flow from your heart, down your wand, and out the end of the wand. Be sure to welcome all plants, stones, and trees. Nature spirits are easily offended. Conclude your ritual with these words:

In the name of the Goddess and the God,
I declare this garden a sanctuary
For the spirits of nature
And the children of the Gods.

When you are finished, leave a gift — cookies, soda, ale, cream, or bright, shiny things like rings, beads, or stones.

Here is a great idea for spell work involving beans. You will need three dried beans large enough to write on, and a fine point indelible marker. Write directly on each bean what it is that you want to grow, cultivate, and harvest in your life. This could be money, love, soul mate, happiness, peace, joy, confidence, etc. Each bean can have the same word (symbols are also fine) or you can write three different words on the same subject.

  • For example: money, $$$ (dollar signs), paychecks.

Now plant the beans in a pot filled with good soil. Make sure your magical beans receive lots of tender loving care, along with proper amounts of sunshine and water. Each day, as you take care of them, think about what you might also do to nurture and take care of whatever it is that you would like to create in your life.

For example, if you are growing magical beans to bring a lover into your life – it might be a good idea to lovingly prepare the bedroom. If you are working to bring happiness, think about small things that you could actually do that might put a smile on your face. As you care for your beans, ideas will come to you – act on them.

When your plants are sturdy, strong and have outgrown their pot, transfer them to a larger container, or transplant them outside where they can reach their full potential.

Very Important:

Don’t get discouraged if your bean plants don’t thrive. Simply do a little research as to what might have gone wrong, and try again. Eventually they will grow and thrive, as will you!

On the night of the full moon, go into your garden, pour a libation of fresh spring water, and say:

Plants of wonder plants of power
Increase in potency by minute and hour
I conjure you now, I charge you with strength
I give you life of infinite length
And boundless magical energy
As I will it, plants, charged you be.

Don’t forget to bless your garden spirits as well. Leave some fragrant herbs strewn in the garden, or string some silver bells, and say the following:

All members of the Sprite and Fey
I offer myself to you this day
For spiritual harvest and your work here below
So that I may flower and blossom and grow
And learn of myself and that up ahead
While working or playing or dreaming in bed
And in return, there is nothing I ask
But that within your magic spirit can bask

Gather together a green votive candle and a yellow votive and dress them with patchouli oil. Place the candles near (but not near enough to scorch) the plant you wish to protect and grow vibrantly and say the following words as you light the candles:

“Floral health
I beseech thee now
Be kind, Flora!”

Allow the candles to burn completely.

Note:

In Roman mythology, Flora was a goddess of flowers and the season of spring and calling upon her will ensure the health and well being of your plants. Repeat this spell for every plant in your garden or home.

From SimpleMagick.com

The Lemuria, is an ancient Roman festival in honor of the Lemures, the spirits of dead family members who wander the earth on these three spring nights (May 9, 11, and 13). This is a banishing ritual to ensure that no bad energy and no angry or hungry ghosts can hang around.  A simple version can be found here: The Lemuria.

Note: While this ritual is specific to The Lemuria, I see no reason why it cannot be used anytime this type of banishing is needed.

  • Colors: Black and grey
  • Element: Air
  • Offerings: None. This is a banishing. All carry cymbals, drums, or noisemakers.
  • Daily Meal: Goat meat. Beans.

Altar:

Upon cloth of black and grey set a bowl of beans, nine black candles, a brazier with incense of agrimony and rue, a bottle of good wine, a bowl of clean spring water, a knotted rope, a bowl of asafoetida, and a skull.

Lemuria Invocation

(First the one who has been chosen to do the work of the ritual stands forth, takes the knotted rope from the altar, and unknots it, and throws it into the brazier.)

Call:

Shades of those who have gone before us!
Ghosts and demons, inside us and outside,
Hear us!

Response:

We cast you out!
We drive you before us!

Call:

Begone from house and hearth,
Begone from mind and heart,
Begone from roost and stall,
Begone from field and garden,
Begone from path and road,
Begone from all places
Where you might harry us!
We scatter you before us on the wind!

Response:

We cast you out!
We drive you before us!

(The officiant makes the sign of the ficus towards the west, and all follow in turn. Then the officiant washes their hands in the clear spring water, and brings the bowl to all, who wash in turn. The water is poured out in the libation well. Then the beans are passed around, and all take a handful or a mouthful. Each spits or throws the beans in a different direction.)

Call:

Hace ego mitto,
his redime meque meosque fabis!

Response:

Manes exite paterni!
Manes exite paterni!
Manes exite paterni!

(All walk through the house and around the boundaries of the property, clashing cymbals and beating drums and making noise to drive away all evil spirits. This ritual repeats for three days, only on odd-numbered days, which are luckier than even-numbered days.)

Here’s a great spell for May Eve, Beltane, or anytime you wish to summon faery folk.

~You will need powdered ginger and a small spoon. Set out candles at the compass directions: yellow in the east, red in the south, blue in the west, green in the north. Place a crystal or other stone beside each candle. Stand in the center of the room and send out thoughts of welcome. Chant the following:

“O spirits of plants and earth and trees, O little ones of every form, show yourselves to me, I ask, if you please. I mean no harm. Gaurdian spirits, watchers fair, our lives are joined. All things we share. Join me in friendship now, and kindness, and love.”

~ Go to the east. Light the candle. Sprinkle a little ginger by the candle, and say: “Nature spirits, faeries, dryads, and sylphs. Please hear my call. Good spirits enter this circle I made. Good spirits only, and kindness to all.”

~ Go to the south. Light the candle. Sprinkle ginger, and say: ” Star beings and devas, little beings of light, Please hear my call. Good spirits enter this circle I made. Good spirits only, and kindness to all.”

~ Go to the west. Light the candle. Sprinkle ginger, and say: “Water sprites, nymphs, naiads and undines. Please hear my call. Good spirits enter this circle I made. Good spirits only, and kindness to to all.”

~ Finish by going to the north. Light the candle. Sprinkle ginger and say: ” Little ones of the moonbeams, Please hear my call. Good spirits enter this circle I made. Good spirits only, and kindness to all.”

Sit quietly for a time, thinking about the fairy folk, be aware of their featherlight touches your body. Listen for their musical voices in your mind. Talk to them if you wish. When communication is finished, stand in the center of the circle. Raise your arms high, saying:

” All thanks and blessings be, To those of air, earth, sky, and sea. Go in peace. And all shall be well.”

Blow out the candles starting in the south and go counterclockwiseor widdershins.

There are many aspects of our lives which we would like to improve, but we just can’t muster up the willpower. In your time of need, a crystal can come to your aid.

You can program a crystal to help you lose weight stop smoking or overcome any negative attitudes about yourself. For example, you want to stop eating chocolate but just can’t. You know you should stop for health reasons but you don’t have the will power.

Try programming a crystal by telling it something like, “I have completely lost any desire for chocolate.” Wear the crystal around your neck or keep it in a pocket. Whenever you want chocolate, touch your crystal and feel the urge dissipate.

To get the most out of your crystal, you need to get the right crystal in the first place. Pick a crystal by attraction, by being drawn to touch it, and then hold it loosely in your left hand. Notice the impressions, colors, sounds, and feelings you pick up. No two crystals are the same. Each crystal has its own unique vibration, and each will resonate differently. It should feel alive in your hand, vibrate, or radiate. In other words, it should feel good.

Before you use your crystals cleanse it. The easiest way to clean your crystal is to hold it in the bright sunlight and order it to be completely cleansed. when, program it with your desired goal. Now, you’re ready to enjoy your crystal!

“Opal black, of burning fire
Add the power that’s required
To make my magic hit its mark,
By light of day, or night so dark.

We should educate people that ‘Witch’ is not evil but ancient and positive. The first time I called myself a ‘Witch’ was the most magical moment of my life.
