Revisiting Ganesha
For the next 30 days, we will be revisiting the Invoking Ganesh project from 2007. This was one of my all time favorites. It always seems to work for me ~ when I remember to use it.
From Mind Valley, here are 6 benefits to a regular practice of chanting the Ganesh Mantra. I’m sure there are many more.
- The Ganesh mantra is known to activate the mind and various chakras of the body. This leads to better blood circulation and therefore improved metabolic rate in the body.
- It is said that it is best to chant the Ganesh Mantra before undertaking a new venture, as he is the bringer of success, prosperity, and good luck.
- Chanting the Ganesh Mantra also brings peace, or more literally – it removes all enemies from one’s path.
- It helps us focus.
- It brings clarity into our lives
- It is also said that if you chant the Ganesh Mantra 1008 times, it will remove fear from your heart.
What is the Ganesh mantra?
Well, actually there are a number of different Ganesh Mantras. The one we used for our original project was this one: Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha.
A loose translation might be:
- Om = The sound of the universe
- Gam = The secret power sound of Ganesh. It is his “seed syllable” or bija mantra.
- Ganapataye = Another name of Ganesh, the remover of obstacles.
- Namaha = I submit to a higher power.
The pronunciation is also pretty easy:
- Om = ohm or aum
- Gam = Somewhere between “gahm” and “gum”. In some dialects it is “guhng”.
- Ganapataye = gah-nah-paht-ah-yeh
- Namaha – nah-mah-hah
Repetition of this mantra over and over again brings peace, and is designed to help remove anything that might be blocking your progress. Some of us used the whole mantra, and some of us just used the bija or seed sound for the Ganesh Mantra, which is “Gam” and sounds like “gum.”
The mantra can be chanted aloud, or silently, or a combination of the two. You might want to do this as a regular meditation practice, or you can simply chant the mantra while on your way to work, whenever anything comes up that feels overwhelming, if you find yourself in a whirlpool of anxious thoughts, while walking, jogging, or even when falling asleep at night.
Six Months Later
Melissa suggested that it would be a good idea, when we complete a project, to check how things are going six months later. So this is a check back on results from the Well Begun project we kicked off in November of last year. If you want to refresh yourself as to what we did, how we felt about it, and etc, you can visit this link: Well Begun.
Here are a few questions to stimulate some conversation:
- Did you create a morning routine?
- Is it still working for you?
- If so, why?
- If not, why not?
- When you think back, do you feel that your life has changed in any way as a direct result of that particular project?
- What are your thoughts and feelings about it now?
- Any interesting experiences you’d like to share?
Six Months Later
Six months ago, we did a little project called “Rise and Shine,” the idea being that your life would be improved with the simple act of making your bed every morning. This post is a small wake up call to find out if anyone is still making their bed in the morning, and to determine what, if any, long term benefit was achieved. So…
- Do you make your bed every morning?
- Do you find that it benefits you in any way?
- Did you participate in the Rise and Shine Project?
- Any other thoughts or comments?
Six Months Later…
It’s been six months since our project Living As If… and I’m just curious to know if anyone has tackled any of the DIY and how-to’s we explored. I think it was our most informational project, packed with lots of great tutorials and ideas for how to turn your house into something comfortable and wonderful even if you don’t have a lot of money.
I’d love to hear any feedback anyone would like to share. Here are a few questions to get us started:
- Did you try any of the do it yourself projects?
- If so, how well did they work for you?
- Did you try any of the recipes?
- Were they yummy?
- Have you implemented any of the feng shui principles in any of the rooms in your home?
- If so, have you noticed any difference?
- Anything else you’d like to share?

Melissa suggested that it would be a good idea, when we complete a project, to check how things are going six months later. So this is a check back on results from the What You Focus On Grows project we kicked off in July last year. If you want to refresh yourself as to what we did, how we felt about it, and etc, you can visit this link: What You Focus On Grows.
Here are a few questions to stimulate some conversation:
- Has your focus changed over the last six months?
- Are you noticing a difference in what you think about from day to day?
- Where is your current focus?
- Do you find that what you resist persists? And if so, what is persisting?
- Do you find that what you focus on grows? And if so, what is currently growing?

Six Months Later
Six months ago we completed The Abundance Formula project. The idea was to simply listen to a chant or a talk by Astarius every day. This post is a six month follow up on that project to see what if anything has changed for you since June 15th.
- If you participated in the project, how has your life improved in the last 6 months?
- Have you revisited any of the chants or talks?
- Has anything changed for you with regards to your approach to life in general?

Well Begun – How Did We Do?
Our Well Begun project has come to a close, and I’m just wondering how we did. This is an opportunity to share any results, ideas, expectations, disappointments, achievements, or anything else that came about as a result of working on this project.
My own personal results were as follows:
Despite being down with a massive sinus infection for at least half of the project, I have managed to come out from under with some great ideas, and a couple of strategies that have been working really well for me. My mornings are way more organized, and my attitude has improved quite a bit.
The way it unfolded was really interesting. I gave myself permission to play the Sims and goof off, but it took my game so long to load that I ended up doing household chores while I was waiting… which felt really good because it took all the guilt out of playing the game, and my house got clean in the process. I also invoked Ganesh for a variety of problems, and that’s been awesomely successful. This boost of positive results has given me more energy and so now I have begun to very slowly implement a few more parts of my overall plan to get my shit together.
And now it’s your turn.
- Did you try any of the ideas shared in this project?
- Was there anything you really enjoyed?
- Has your morning routine changed in any way as a result of this project?
- What aspects of your personal morning routine work really well for you?
- Is there anything else you’d like to share? experiences? insights? ideas?
My New Morning Routine
So, today, I thought it might be a good idea to make a list of what I would like to include in my own morning routine, to try and figure out what is most important to me and my lifestyle.
I find that I am most attracted to morning routines that sound fun, or exotic, or creative, or so simple and practical that there’s no excuse not to do it. If I could find a morning routine that was also flexible and effectively made each day better for me, I might actually be inclined to do it.
Also, it’s important to give yourself time in the mornings to begin the day. I love the Barack Obama idea of getting up two hours before the “event.” This might work for me.
So…. Here’s what I am thinking about integrating into my mornings:
- Make the bed.
- Drink a cup of hot water with lemon.
- Stretch like a cat before getting out of bed.
- Ganesh mantra when I begin to feel stressed.
- Say “hello” to the sun – outside.
- Music every morning.
- Art every day.
For any routine to work, we first have to actually follow it over and over again until it becomes a habit. In order to do something over and over again (at least for me), it has to give good results, be flexible enough to allow for life’s little dramas, and have something about it that makes me interested and excited.
I especially like the “tiny habits” idea, and am working on how to integrate my morning routine ideas into a tiny habits that are simple and easy to remember.
What about you? What would you like to integrate into a morning routine? Are there any tiny habits that you will be working on? I’d love to hear your ideas and insights!
