Magick

Moving Mountains that Block Your Way

GnomeAccording to the 16th century Swiss alchemist Paracelsus, the gnome is able to move through earth in the same manner that a fish swims through water or a human walks through air. Gnomes are associated with the fey, or fairy-folk, and are equated with earthly treasures, earth consciousness, and great knowledge of the magick in rocks, caves, roots, gems, and mountains.

Because gnomes can move through earth like fish swim through water, one can turn to the gnomes to move a block of earth energy within oneself, or a block placed in our path by another.

This spell is particularly good when things have been moving along just fine for you, you’ve been recovering from your debts, sailing ahead and suddenly – thwack! You run into some sort of a block. Before you spend days, weeks, or months worrying, try this spell.

Supplies:

  • 1 cup dirt
  • A sieve
  • A handful (up to 1/2 oz) of ginger or dragon’s blood herb

Instructions:

Over a paper towel or bowl, pour the cup of dirt into the sieve. Add the ginger (or dragon’s blood)

Say:

Element of earth,
move the mountain of ___________ (state what is stuck)

As the ginger (or dragon’s blood) mixes with the earth,
so shall the blocks in my life
be broken gently apart and removed,
so that I may prosper.

As the dirt shakes out of the sieve, visualize the financial problems in your life breaking up and dissolving. Once all the dirt is through the sieve, turn the sieve over and tap it seven times to remove any excess dirt.

Carry the dirt to a crossroads at midnight and dump it there, once again asking the element of earth to gently disperse the negativity in your life with harm to none.

Wash the sieve, asking the element of water to gently cleanse your situation.

Make Friends With Fate

book%2520dragon_cunningham

Fate, it is said, may be influenced in your favor if you know your personal magic word.

To find it, light a white candle and sit facing south. Take a dictionary; close your eyes and turn the book around several times so that you are unaware of which way it is facing.

Eyes closed, fan the pages until you feel compelled to stop at a certain page.

Eyes still closed, wander about the page using your forefinger until you feel inclined to pause. Open your eyes, look at the word under your finger. If there is more than one word, pick the first that jumps out at you from the page. This is your magic word.

You can remind yourself of your magic word mentally or verbally whenever you wish to tune in to a situation, or whenever you feel you need a boost of energy. It will change the vibration around you and attract good influences.

Important note:

It is better not to talk about your word too much – if at all. The more you verbalize about it, the less power it will have. Too much talking about something, particularly something sacred and magical, tends to dilute the energy. This does not mean that your word must be a “secret”. It does mean that it is important to keep your “magic word” to yourself, and for sure do not share it with anyone who would make light of it, or belittle you in any way.

Banishing Blocks

179724

This is a thermal photograph of an ice cube melting. Isn’t it awesome?

Banishing blocks with Water Undines:

Undines are female derivatives of water spirits. Like the other elements, the Undines contribute to the universal life force through purification, movement and sound.

This spell uses the properties of water turned to ice. Pour spring water into a small, new paper or plastic cup. Freeze.

When you are ready to perform the spell, take the cup out of the freezer. Place upside-down in a bowl. Hold your hands over the ice and name what has frozen in your financial affairs. Blow on the ice three times.

And chant:

Breath of spirit,
Warmth of love.

Allow the ice to thaw, visualizing the financial difficulty flowing away from you. When it is thawed, pour the water on a house plant – our outside around a tree or shrub. As you pour the water out, think about how the energy of spirit and the warmth of love can now freely flow through you to nourish and heal those around you.

Pour Out Your Troubles

This is a spell to be done on the night of a full moon:

full-moon-human-behavior

In a moment,
hold out your hands in front of you,
as though you were holding
a sphere
the size of a small melon.

Imagine that you are holding the moon.
The full moon.. is in your hands.. and you are holding it.
you can see it..
bright and shining in your hands
just like it is bright and shining in the sky.

Into this sphere,
I want you to pour all your troubles,
all your cares,
all your worries
and all those things that swirl around in the back of our minds
and make our thinking unclear
and our motivation murky.

Let them all pour into this amazing container –
thoughts, pictures, feelings, people, bills, the past, the future,
all of it.
It’s quick once it gets going.

When you have poured in all your current cares,
take the sphere in both hands,
lift it up high over your head and throw it behind you.
back up into the sky.

each day as the moon wanes..
your troubles are waning along with it..

Take a deep breath
and enjoy.

Removing Misfortune

According to the Romanies, extricating yourself or someone you care for from a streak of bad luck and misfortune is not difficult.

Take three small jars and nine garlic cloves, and a number of thorns from a white rose. Stick the thorns into the garlic cloves and place three cloves in each jar.

Each jar should be buried within sight of a church porch while you say the Lord’s Prayer.

Note: Best done under the light of a full moon.
broughfair-church

Here is the Lord’s Prayer in the Gypsy Dialect of Transylvania:

Miro gulo Devel, savo hal oté ando Cheros,
te avel swuntunos tiro nav;
te avel catari tiro tem;
te keren saro so cames oppo puv,
sar ando Cheros.
Dé man sekhonus miro diveskoe manro,

Ma muk te petrow ando chungalo camoben;
tama lel man abri saro doschdar.
Weika tiro sin o tem,

tiri yi proslava akana ta sekovar.
pa amara choribo.

And here is the English Translation:

My sweet God,
who art there in Heaven,
may thy name come hallowed;
may thy kingdom come hither;
may they do all that thou wishest upon earth,
as in Heaven.
Give me to-day my daily bread,
and forgive me all that I cannot pay thee,
as I shall forgive other men all that they do not pay me.
Do not let me fall into evil desire;
but take me out from all wickedness.
For thine is the kingdom,
thine the power,
thine the glory now and ever.

Full Moon Mojo

fullmoonoverraventree aaronhorowitzThis is the day when we go through all our little new moon “mojo’s” and reset them for the full moon. Lots of little easy tasks.

If you put a dollar under your doormat, today is the day to remove it if that’s what you want to do. If you do remove it, sprinkle the spot where it was with a little pinch or two of mint to freshen the energy.

If you like that spell, and want to keep it going, you can leave it where it is until the new moon (about 2 weeks from now), at which point you can either refresh your dollar with cinnamon, or replace it with a larger bill.. say for example, a five dollar bill.

If you do opt to remove the dollar bill, it might be fun to put it on your spindle (or in your envelope) so it can continue to draw all that good prosperity to you.

If you put a coin in your windowsill, today is the day to flip it over so that the “tails” side is up. “Heads” up brings money in. “Tails” up deflects and sends money problems out. When you flip your coin, it might be nice to hold it in your hands for a moment and appreciate the good energy it brought to you.

If you made Madam Fortuna’s prosperity oil, today is the day to fish that coin out of the oil, gently and appreciatively wash it with warm soapy water. Add a pinch of ginger to the oil after you remove the coin, this will act as a sealant for the energy accumulated as the moon became full.

If you have a decorative bottle that you would like to use for your prosperity oil, now is a good time to fill it. Hand blown Egyptian glass perfume bottles are really really cool, and not very expensive.

I also found a nice little full moon ritual/meditation. It’s pretty simple, and a nifty way to pull in the “fullness of the moon” into your prosperity.

circle-round-abundance-meditation-small

Light a green candle and sprinkle some mint around the base of it. (This can be mint leaves, mint essential oil, or even a handful of peppermints.)

Sit quietly and comfortably. Close your eyes. Relax. See yourself as the energy of prosperity. Be the energy of prosperity. Imagine that you are in the center of a radiating circle of prosperity.

Chant out loud or repeat in your mind:

Circle, circle, round, round
Round, round, circle, round.

Do this for however long is comfortable. Open your eyes, remind yourself that you are the energy of prosperity. Put out the candle or allow it to burn down.

Note: This spell is best performed when the moon is full, however it can be used any time you feel a need.

Making A Gypsy Medicine Bag

mojo_rootwork

A Parik-til is the Gypsy version of a medicine or mojo bag. To create a parik-til, a small drawstring pouch is made in the appropriate color for the intended purpose. Into this goes various little objects: herbs, stones, feathers, sometimes a charm or piece of paper inscribed with a simple spell. This list is endless; it is only important that the objects seem sympathetic to your purpose.

Collect leaves and twigs of the oak tree, including a small acorn if available, the petals and/or seeds of the sunflower, a piece of cinnamon stick, three cloves, a stone that feels lucky for you, a horseshoe charm if you can find one – or a small picture or hand drawn symbol to represent a horse shoe, and a little trinket such as a bit of jewelry or a coin.

Feel free to add anything else that seems relevant, or meaningful to you. Tie the oak leaves and twigs with a bit of green yellow and orange thread. Put all the items into a drawstring bag. Perfume with an essential oil such as Myrrh, Benzoin, Cinnamon, or Patchouli, or dab with prosperity oil.

Hold the bag in your hands and feel the energy contained within. Parik-til means blessing holder, the objects inside the bag are symbols of the blessings you are holding. Take a few minutes to allow yourself to really feel it.

If you have never made a simple drawstring bag, they are super easy, and you can find hundreds of tutorials online, or you can check out my less than artistic rendition of how to make a drawstring pouch in about 5 minutes using a handkerchief, a ribbon, and a needle and thread. Wealthy Week Begins

On a Sunday evening, burn a gold candle surrounded by piles of loose change. It is important not to count the cash. If there are so few coins you cannot help but notice, cover them with a handkerchief. Watching the candle flame, say:

“Thank you for the money I have already received from the invisible world.”

more than light
Leave the candle to burn down and extinguish itself. Afterward gather up the coins. You will need them for the next evening’s spell.

On Monday burn a white candle in the same way, adding to the heap of coins any more you have accumulated throughout the day. Repeat words of thanks for money already received from the invisible world.

On Tuesday use a pink candle and add to the coin collection the loose change the day has brought you. Speak the magic words again.

Continue with the words and the same coins, adding daily to the pile. Use a red candle on Wednesday, a green candle on Thursday, a blue candle on Friday, and on Saturday a green candle.

Stash away your cash and reserve it for money spells. The more coins you accumulate, the greater the power of attraction.

(Of course, you can also throw the coins into your purse.)

Earth Abundance Spell

zarabotat-na-dachnikah-5226

Supplies:

  • A thin spindle (the kind they stick cash register receipts on)
  • 3 one dollar bills (higher denominations are OK too – just be aware that you won’t be using them unless you have a “money emergency”)
  • Powdered Cinnamon
  • Prosperity oil

Instructions:

Dip the tip of the spindle into the prosperity oil. Place one dollar bill on the spindle. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Hold your hands over the dollar bill and say:

Veiled Fortuna, Goddess of luck,
sweet sister of fortune
spinner of the Wheel of Destiny
grant me the gift of prosperity.
Bring me the blessings of positive abundance.
With harm to none, so mote it be.

Place the second dollar bill on top of the first. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Hold your hands over the bills and say:

Spirits of Earth, element of prosperity,
strong Mother of my fortune,
grant me the gift of unlimited resources.
Bring me the blessings of positive abundance.
With harm to none, so mote it be.

Place the third dollar bill on top of the second. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Hold your hands over the bills and say:

I am fortunate.
I am successful.
I am positive abundance.
I am prosperity!

Every evening, before you go to bed, add a dollar bill or two to the pile. Don’t forget to sprinkle with cinnamon, and say the last affirmation:

I am prosperity!

stack_of_money 2

When your spindle is full, remove all but the last dollar and start over again. The “spindle” money can be placed in a special savings account to used for special projects, or it can be saved in a “magical money box” and saved for a rainy day. As the money on the spindle increases, so will your personal finances.

If you find that you must use the dollars on the spindle for some unforeseen emergency, be sure to leave the first dollar. If something happens, and you spend that first dollar, you will need to do the spell again.

Madam Fortuna’s Prosperity Oil

1b67262417c94dd2d1a4af4b0d44521aThe optimum time to make this oil is 5 days following the new moon. But it can be made any time during the new or crescent moon phase.

Supplies:

  • A small item made of gold
  • Olive oil
  • Small clean container (preferably glass) with a tight fitting lid
  • Powdered cinnamon or cinnamon essential oil

Instructions:

  • Place the item made of gold into the container
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or a drop of cinnamon essential oil
  • Pour enough olive into the container to cover the item and fill the container to the halfway mark.

Cradle the container in your hands and think about how grateful and happy you are for the prosperity that you already have, and for the prosperity that is coming to you.

Then gently breathe this gratitude and happiness into the container, continue to breathe it into the container until it has been filled the rest of the way to the top with loving gratitude.

Put the lid on the container, and tighten it.

  • Tap the lid with your middle finger once and say “Thank you to the Father”
  • Tap the lid with your middle finger a second time and say “Thank you to the Mother”
  • Tap the lid with your middle finger for a third time and say “Thank you to the Living Spirit in all things”

This prosperity oil will gradually increase in potency as the moon waxes toward full, and can be used at any time.

On the full moon:

  • Remove the gold item – and gently and lovingly clean it.
  • Drop a pinch of powdered ginger into the container.

Cradle the container in your hands and think about how grateful and happy you are for the prosperity that you already have, and for the prosperity that is coming to you.

Hints and tips:

  1. If it seems that there is no prosperity in your life to be grateful for, think of something that makes you happy, or someone you love.
  2. A Sacajawea gold dollar is a great item to use – and they can be purchased for $1 at your local bank.
