Hot Spot Fire Drill
Our declutter activity for today is the:
Hot Spot Fire Drill
Remember, clutter consists of things that do not bring you joy, you do not love, or you don’t need.
Clutter is disorganized. Clutter keeps you living in the past. Clutter makes you embarrassed and ashamed. Clutter does not allow your mind and body to rest. Clutter tells you that you are not worthy. Clutter never wants you to leave home. Clutter has to be conquered! Release your clutter and find the things you are searching for.
Find the Hot Spot in the area we are working in today.
A Hot Spot is an area that, if left unattended, will gradually and insidiously take over your home. It may seem under control but it really isn’t. When you walk into a room, the Hot Spot is the first thing you see. Clutter attracts more clutter. Whenever you catch yourself saying, “I can put this here and do it later”, you have created a “Hot Spot.” We are going to stop this Hot Spot from becoming a raging clutter inferno.
Set your timer for 3 minutes. Survey your Hot Spot in the area for today and put away the items have just been left out. That’s all! At the end of three minutes, stop. We are done decluttering for today.

In the past, whenever I have worked on decluttering my bigger hotspots, or my messiest rooms, it has really worn me out. I would find myself getting exhausted before I was anywhere near done. I think this must be because it is INNER as well as OUTER work.
I really like our de-cluttering drills because they are so short and simple. I find that I can do just about anything for 5 or even 10 minutes. And then I feel good, like I have accomplished something.
Looks like I am going to have to buy the Fly Lady’s book “Sink Reflections”.
This whole thing of doing the hard stuff in little bitty spurts has got me thinking about the other things in my life that I am having difficulties with (exercise – for example) what if I worked at them in the same way…
I wonder what my life would look like then… hmmm… I might try it.

I clicked on one of the links on the side of the page, and went to the Feng Shui Emporium. Right on the home page, it talked about clearing away your clutter! How appropriate for our project! Here’s what it said:
“Feng Shui Tip: Clutter is THE major culprit keeping you from reaping the benefits of good feng shui. Attack that clutter today! I know it can be difficult, but be ruthless. THIS is why God made yard sales. If you just do not know where to begin, there are friends out there that can help you, or you can even hire a specialist in clutter-clearing. I promise that you will feel the difference immediately. Your life will undergo a positive change – it HAS to, because you will have allowed your rooms to breathe differently, and if your space changes, you will too – it is a Law!”
More validation for our approach!
