Dakinis: Sky Dancing Angels
“The teaching of the whispered lineage is the Dakini’s breath”

The literal translation of Dakini is “Sky Dancer”. The Western form for Dakinis are Angels. If you believe in or have curiosity about Angels, well Dakinis immediately follow.
The Western idea of an Angel being a beautiful celestial being who flies in the sky and who sometimes comes to earth to provide inspiration and support to us mortals is very similar to the Dakinis.
Generally when they are referred to in Buddhist literature it is assumed they are devoted to the Truth (Dharma). But the broader meaning of the word is a female (males are called Dakas) spirit who has some freedom but is still bound by their past actions.
Thus there are good Angels and bad (or simply confused) Angels. Some people might argue that you couldn’t call them an Angel anymore if they’re bad, but that’s ridiculous since being predictable is not part of anyone’s long-term nature.
Thus there are worldly Dakinis who are malicious and use their powers to confuse us, to arouse passions that are destructive, and who use their charms for their own selfish purposes. Dakinis can manifest on earth in human form or take birth as a human.
These are then called “worldly Dakinis” and I’m sure you’ve met at least one or two in your lifetime. Women (or men) who seem to be able to simply will things into being. People who are so charming that they seduce whatever they want from the world and enjoy it fully, yet also remain somewhat unattached from the results.
Dharma Dakinis are devoted to a higher purpose and so their actions are generally positive. But it is hard to generalize the actions of Dharma Dakinis since they aim to break our rabid fixation on concrete thoughts. Dharma Dakinis are not afraid to use their powers to dazzle us, arouse us out of our sleep of habits, and seduce us onto a path of truth. Dakinis are tricky, capricious, and unpredictable.
Messengers between our earthly realm and the higher realms of the teachers, they help to bring the powerful teachings to earth, protect the truth from destructive forces, and bring blessings to sincere seekers. Dakinis do not manifest simply for our pleasure.
Sky Dancers help us through vision and inspiration. But although we can be greatly inspired by a Dakini (another word is Muse), they will only come back if we put into action what they have shown us.
In that regard a Dakini’s love is unswerving and always compassionate. It doesn’t matter if we wait a few hours or a few lifetimes to put our inspiration into action. Miracles occur but sometimes it takes years to fully realize the implications. When we do realize or remember, our hearts open, and again the magic and majesty of the universe is open to us. The Dakinis celebrate the Truth and our resolve to work for it in a most extraordinary way. They dance in the sky.

Angels In Space
This was reported in the New Year’s Edition, “Parade Magazine,” as one of the most significant events in 1985. The amazing event occurred with the Soviet Cosmonauts in the Salyut 7 that orbited the earth in 1985.
The six Soviet Cosmonauts in 1985 saw “celestial beings” on the 155th day aboard their orbiting space station. This was first reported by Cosmonaut Vladimir Solevev and Oleg Atkov as well as Leonid Kizim. This is what they said, “What we saw were seven giant figures in the form of humans, but with wings and mist-like halos as in the classic depiction of angels.”
As the Cosmonauts were performing medical experiments in Salyut 7 high above the earth, a brilliant orange cloud enveloped them, blinding them temporarily, and when their eyes cleared, they saw the angels.
The heavenly visitors, they said, followed them for about 10 minutes and vanished as suddenly as they had appeared. However, 12 days later, Cosmonauts Svetlana Savitskaya, Igor Volk, and Vladimir Dzhanibevok, who had just joined the others on the space station, also saw the beings.
“They were glowing,” they reported. “We were truly overwhelmed. There was a great orange light, and through it, we could see the figures of seven angels. They were smiling as though they shared a glorious secret, but within a few minutes, they were gone, and we never saw them again.”
Planning An Angel Day
One of my favorite things to do is to plan an “angel day.” It doesn’t cost any money, and I’m never disappointed in what I find or the experiences I have. You can choose to spend a day with nature (pack a picnic lunch), visit friends, or go to a busy shopping mall. It doesn’t matter.
There is only one requirement:
Before you start out, say to yourself, “I’m going to have an angel day today. That means I’m open to whatever the universe has to show me about angels, and how I can help others.” then off you go.
Note:
You can tweak the purpose of your angel day to achieve a number of goals. For example, if you are wanting to know more about your guardian angel, you can say,
“I’m going to have an angel day today. That means I’m open to whatever my guardian angel wants to show me about his/herself, and how we can establish a deeper bond and better communication.”
Keep in mind that every occurrence and everyone you meet is orchestrated by the angels to educate or entertain you. You are on an adventure, a treasure hunt. Be nice to every person you meet. Look people straight in the eyes if they speak to you. Pay attention and listen to what is happening around you.
If you are a “shopper,” might yourself that you will only look for angel things today. You will find that you spend less money and ferret out items you’ve really been looking for, not the junk you usually collect through impulse buying. You might ask the angels to help guide you to the right store, or library, if you are looking for a particular book or reference material.
When you return home, jot down the significant events of your day. Spend time meditating and clearing out your body. During meditation, envision your angel as a tour guide to help you work out any unanswered questions about your experiences.
In essence, there are many ways you can have an “angel day.” You can begin every day as an “angel day.” You just might be surprised by how much more in tune with the universe you will be, and it is a great feeling to have with you every single day.
Angel Magick Invocation
Today is a full moon – a perfect night for some Angel Magick.
This spell can be said anytime. Works well by accentuating with a bell or any instrument that makes a high ringing sound… such as a wind chime. Ring the bell one time after each phrase. This can also be done in a group, where one person says a line, and then the line is repeated by the group, followed by the words “So shall it be!”
State your intention, and follow it up with each of the Angels listed below, and a simple affirmation of power. For example (I love my life. Ariel begins it. So shall it be!) Repeat until each angelic power has been invoked. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to pronounce the names, just do the best you can with them.
This is a very powerful chanting invocation, you will feel the energy build as you do the spell.

- Baradiel guides it.
- The Chalkydri sing it.
- Devas manifest it.
- Elohim wills it.
- The Fravashi better it.
- Bagriel brings it.
- The Hafaza watch it.
- The Ischim blalance it.
- Jael guards it.

- Patron Angels devote it.
- The Queen of Angels speaks it.
- Raphael inspires it.
- Sandalphon prays it.

- Uriel strengthens it.

- Yahriel places the glory of the moon on it.
- Zodiac Angels seal it.
- And Spirit brings it through time and space.
So be it.

Creating An Angel Altar
Angel altars are not necessary and they’re not used to pray to Angels, they give you a designated space that is set aside only for you and your Angels. It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate, it can be a book shelf or a small table in a corner of the room. But you want it to be somewhere you are comfortable. Where you’re able to relax, meditate and speak to your Angels.
No one can tell you exactly what to put on your altar. Put things that mean something to you, something that reminds you of your Angels. A pretty table cloth or place mat, stones, candles, incense, figurines of Angels, flowers, an Angel journal, a feather, a tabletop waterfall. Anything that feels good to you in that place is what should be there.
Once you have your altar all together, dedicate it as an Angel altar. Do not lay keys on it or allow it to get cluttered. Be respectful of your space. Call Angels to your altar and always make it a welcoming place for them.

What Are Devas?
I believe that Angels and Devas are different words for the same thing. So, what are Devas?
The word deva comes from the Sanskrit language, meaning “a being of brilliant light” and is used to indicate a non-physical being. We are using the word deva here as a general name for both nature spirits and angelic beings.
How did devas come into being? It is said that in the beginning, when earth solidified and the physical life forms were formed, the devas were so far behind in evolution that they could not form physical bodies.
Consciousness of the devas is directed to expansion in contrast to our consciousness that is focused and limited by the form of the human body. Devas are always conscious of their cosmic environment, and want to become ever more conscious of that what they encompass. Devic beings want to be, while physical beings want to do. Devic beings concentrate creating, while physical beings want to develop.
Devas have an instinctive knowledge, they do not have to acquire knowledge like we do. The have instinctive knowledge of cosmic patterns, relationships, and harmonies.
They do not have form as we understand form in the physical world. In their, astral, realm they are like fluidic open vortexes of cosmic consciousness. When people are able to perceive them, they often will take a form extracted from the human mind. Thus we will see them in a more or less human form, but in essence they are only vortexes of energies.
They have memory and learn from past experiences. They are conscious of the archetypes of the field in which they work. They react to and improve their work according to the physical influences on the life forms with which they work. They are only interested in their own field of work. For example, the deva of the oak trees is only interested in the growth of oak trees, a landscape deva is only interested in the life forms of that landscape, a healing deva only works with healing energies. It is therefore useless to ask a oak tree deva how to heal a human body. Devas are only knowledgeable in their own particular field.
Working with devas is of a mutual benefit. Devas acquire experience of focused consciousness and action, while humans can learn to surrender to the silence of the devic consciousness and its sensitivity to cosmic influences. Devas are always willing to help people.
Many people have tried to classify and name the numerous nature spirits, but one has to understand that there are many, many forms of nature spirits, and one form blends over into another. On top of that their names are not consistent among the authors who classified them. But what does it matter, the most important thing, is that you have an idea of what they are and what they do.

What Are Angels?
Angels are the governing intelligences behind everything in Creation, from the stars and galaxies down to the most mundane of human activities.
What If You Don’t Feel A Connection?
Have you ever turned the house upside down looking for something that was right in front of you? You go through every drawer in your closet hunting desperately for your watch only to look down after 15 minutes of frantic scrambling and see that you have been wearing it the whole time. Similarly, you might have searched everywhere for your keys which you did not notice were the only thing on the table by the door.
This same phenomenon can occur with angels. You might be desperately searching for some angelic assistance, but you have completely ignored the signs and suggestions that the angels in your life have left you.
If you’re expecting a talking hologram to appear and talk to you for an extended amount of time, it’s not going to happen. Especially at first, the contact may be brief and more of a feeling than visual or audio.
If you cannot seem to find an answer or any help, pause and look around you to see what answers might be sitting right in front of you. Pray for clear sight so that you can see what signs the angels have left you, and if that fails, ask your angels to be overwhelmingly obvious. Sometimes, you need a neon sign instead of the subtleties that angels tend to use.
It can take days, weeks even months to receive an answer you fully understand. And sometimes, the answer comes through an event or moment of sudden insight. It may come to you unexpectedly during a casual phone call from a friend, something you read in a book, newspaper or magazine, from a conversation between strangers you inadvertently overheard. The main thing is to be aware and open.
Sometimes your angels appear to have abandoned you because they are waiting for you to try and solve the problem yourself. This is not something that anyone enjoys, but even angels practice tough love on those occasions that you really need a kick in the pants.
Do not think that this means the angels have abandoned you to flounder helplessly. Even when your angels are making you solve something yourself, you are not alone. They are there with you and will help you if you truly need it. They will not, however, complete the task for you. If you feel like you are sinking, know that the angels will keep your head above water. They will not let you drown, but you are responsible for swimming to shore.
If you can tell that your angels are present and listening but they seem to be holding back on open assistance, it might be a sign that this is a problem you need to face down yourself.
Patience will allow you to persevere, even if you do not get results right away. Patience will help you build faith in your Angels, trusting that at the right time they will come through. Faith endears you to your unseen supporters, as well as creating the space for miracles, which is where they gather and thrive.
Miracles do not have to be earth shattering. Miracles can be tiny happenings in your daily life that make you feel good or that make you laugh or even cry from happiness.
Also, be on the look out for a tendency to discount the ordinary things that might happen to be helpful to you. Angels often work in ordinary ways and through ordinary people and events.
How Do Angels Communicate With Us?
Angels help mostly by by communicating directly if you are able to receive or indirectly with omens (i.e. a book they feel you should read may fall off a shelf in your path for example). Out of nowhere, you may suddenly have a desire to contact someone or go somewhere.
They can also send information in dreams and as compressed energy that unfolds over time—you’ll have a knowing but won’t be able to verbalize it or explain it for a while as the pieces of the puzzle come together. They can also send you very high-level healing energies and healing. If you are able to feel subtle energies you may feel this as warmth or tingling pulses of energy moving through your body.
After asking your angel for assistance, watch for repetition of words you see, hear or think. Notice patterns like repeatedly hearing a song, seeing a bumper sticker or having a friend unknowingly repeat the very same message your angel gave you. Keep asking until you feel you completely understand the answer.
My personal experience is that I will find a feather when I am making the right decision or on the right path. I have found feathers in unexpected places, such as in an elevator… at the grocery story on a shelf… even found one once on the floor of a Walmart.
As you begin to get to know your angels, you will begin to have an idea of how your angels communicate with you. Everyone is different and we experience Angel energy differently, so stay open to all the possibilities.
Contacting Your Angels
The following suggestions may help you in making initial contact with your angels.
- Choose a regular time each day to communicate to your guardian angels. Before going to sleep or when you first wake up may be the best time.
- Be open and receptive to anything that feels like a nudge or a sign. You might find a feather, feel a slight breeze, or something else. Pay attention.
- If you think your angels are near, accept that they are, and acknowledge them.
- If you have depression, negative feelings, fear, nightmares—ask your guardian angels for extra protection.
- Remain open to messages from your angel at all times. Especially when you sense a warning that you are making a mistake or a prickly feeling of danger.
- Don’t be irresponsible and risk your personal safety. Your guardian angel can’t override your free will.
- Be positive and proactive! Your angel will guide, heal and protect you but you must be responsible for your own actions.
