Long Nights Moon
According to folklore, December's full moon is
the Long Nights Moon. It gets its name from the
long nights of December, when the full moon is
closest to the Winter Solstice. It is sometimes
called the Moon before Yule, Big Winter Moon,
or the Cold Moon..
There’s also something special about the Long
Nights Moon: it travels extra-high in the sky,
passing almost directly overhead at midnight.
